It is my pleasure to welcome you to EtonHouse Pre-School Surabaya. Although I am new at this school, I am not new to the community of EtonHouse branches. I started working for EtonHouse International School in Singapore way back in 2005. However, when a post to work in Indonesia was offered by EtonHouse Management Singapore, I took a leap of faith, and accepted the challenge to work regionally. I held that leadership role for a number of years until 2017. I have now settled in at EtonHouse Pre-school Surabaya and am looking forward to working closely with parents, teachers and children here.

At EtonHouse we believe that learning is a life long journey that starts in the early years with purposeful and relevant experiences provided in a caring, fun and stimulating learning environment, supported by a holistic EtonHouse curriculum of Inquire * Think * Learn. These inquiry learning experiences engage children, and they are guided and supported by qualified educators and professionals in the field of Early Childhood Education.

All of our teachers go through rigorous in-house training programs and twice yearly Professional Development workshops with the Director of Pedagogy sent from our EtonHouse Headquarters in Singapore, to ingrain them in the philosophy and teaching approach of EtonHouse. We are a Reggio Emilia inspired school …….. The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. It is a pedagogy, a science and an approach to teaching described as student-centered and constructivist that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments.

A quote by Loris Malaguzzi, founder of Reggio Emilia – “Stand aside for a while and leave room for learning, observe carefully what children do, and then, if you have understood well, perhaps teaching will be different from before!”.

Moving forward, what is my vision for the school? I would like to see a growing demand for more EtonHouse Pre-Schools and Primary Education here in Surabaya. I see ourselves growing into providing for more branches in other areas in Surabaya and Indonesia in general. We would want parents to have a sense of security in knowing that their child will continue into the Primary / EtonHouse education after graduating from our pre-schools.

We hope to work closely with parents in partnership, to ensure that our sound and balanced curriculum, that ties with our belief of how children learn and which focuses on the image of the child, will provide them with the necessary skills for successful learning, an inner motivation to persevere in their future education challenges and life. Our parents’ feedback attest to their happiness with the quality of education and care that their child receives at EtonHouse Surabaya.

I wish to thank all parents for their wonderful and useful feedback and I also wish to thank the management for putting their trust in my leadership to direct the school and to all my dedicated and hard-working teachers and support staff; nothing would have been achieved without the people working endlessly behind the scenes and caring for the children, our most important people!

Best Wishes,

Vera Lie
